This week Inside Lounge brings you the tight-knit team of Battle Beasts Boys, who made it to the top 12 of the season 4 Championship playoffs. The team is well known for their edgy picks and nearly impossible to predict playstyle.
Kire42: Hello there! I am Kire42, a proud member of the team Battle Beasts Boys and current owner of a battle beast. Kire42 is an odd nickname and has it origins from my early gaming days, whereas Kire always was taken and I had to choose something different. 42 is the answer to everything, hence my name of Kire42. I am a guy from Sweden like the rest of the Battle Beast crew, but I live in Norway with my girlfriend, and I like to play Chen or assassin. Before HotS I played HoN for over 3 years.
Grimmie: Hello! I am Grimmie, a Gazlowe main and play all roles except bruiser because I suck at it. I have always been an all-around gamer but with the most interest in rts such as Age Of Empires and Starcraft. I started playing Dota when it was a Warcraft 3 mod and switched to Heroes Of Newerth around 2011. I played HoN for 3+ years. I'm the first person in BBB to try Heroes Of The Storm, but the last to start actively playing it. I am called Grimmie after the, now dead, youtube singer Christina Grimmie. I am currently renting a battle beasts. #PrayForToads
Tylon: Hi, I’m Tylon, captain of the awesome team name Battle Beasts Boys (the extra ‘s’ in the name was totally intentional). The captain role fell upon me, because the rest of the team are sloths. I mainly play support heroes, because the sloths usually needs a lot of healing, especially the fat panda. :D As the main support I usually save my valuable cooldowns for when slapathur enters the battlefield to finish off the core. I am currently an owner of a Battle Beasts.
Bearly: Hello there! I am Bearly, “proud” member of the team Battle Beasts Boys and the promoter of random stuff like the amazing Indian popcorn with cheddar flavor from Estrella. I am the Tank/bruiser/dps/healer/azmo picker of the team cuz someone needs to fill the blank spot that always exists in our team comps (fml). I have been given the right to call targets to nuke, cuz I yell the loudest in teamspeak.I am currently an owner of a Battle Beast.
Freddywe: Bearly: "Yo, what up Heroes Lounge? Lemme tell you about Freddywe. He ain't got no life. He ain't got no friends. And you know, he wants to spend his weekend with 4 people he doesn't know and with some guy named Tylon telling him what to do!" Freddywe: "Oh hell yeah that's me, where do I sign up?" Tylon: "On the website!" Freddywe: "Wow!" Tylon: "You can be a winner!"
Thank you Myndflame for that awesome introduction. Now let's talk about me Freddywe who's the tank of the Battle Beasts Boys team. My nickname came from a game called Dynasty Warriors. There was a hero called Dian Wei and a friend of mine called Daniel got inspired and called himself Dannywe. Therefore I then called myself Freddywe, since my real life name is Fredrik. During the time we played HoN, I was mostly playing junglers (Ophelia was my favorite hero). But since there is no real jungle in Heroes of the storm, I've switched role to tank though sometimes I also play specialists. If anyone from Blizzard is reading this plz buff Murky and Nova again. I am currently an owner of a Battle Beast.
As a team, we felt we needed skinergy and we are too cheap to buy mounts. So, therefore, we went with a mount everyone had. We were thinking about using our Heroes of Newerth name, It's not very effective, but in the end, we went with Battle Beasts Boys. The name was supposed to be Battle Beast Boys but Tylon misspelled it, so now we are Battle Beasts Boys.
Grimmie is a classmate of Tylon, who is the younger brother of Kire42, who is a former classmate of Freddywe. Bearly is a cousin of Tylon and Kire42.
We started playing together around 2011-2012 after Heroes Of Newerth became free-to-play and has since then played together as a team.
We had a rough start in the season mainly due to lack of practice and people playing the game in general. During the ranked season 2, 2017, we only manage to play with the full roster 5 times.
As the season progressed our teamwork has improved a lot. Playing against teams in a bo3 setting compared to ladder has made a huge difference in the way we approach the game.
If someone makes a call and someone disagrees with the call, that person just yells higher than the first person and its gucci.
With Tylon being the player with the most experienced in our team, we usually have him making the final call if there are any disagreements.
Earlier in the season, we had problems when it came to target-calling and our team fights were not up to the standard we were looking for. We assigned Bearly as our main target-caller and our team fights has improved significantly.
Unconventional setups that are rarely contested in the drafts are our favorites. It is heroes we are comfortable playing that are not necessarily considered high tier picks, but that we feel have potential in our lineup.
For us it's better to play something we feel comfortable playing rather than playing what is considered the best. We are of course picking up and learning the "best" heroes, but until we feel like we can utilize the hero fully as individuals and as a team, we prefer picking heroes, that we are more comfortable with.
Our favorite comp was something we called "Green Team". It started off as a joke with everyone picking a hero with a green skin. It was Murky, Gazlowe, Reghar, Thrall and Chen. Chen not having a green skin was the exception, because Chen is Chen, and we love the fat panda.
Reaching the playoffs was our original goal for the season, so completing that goal has been very satisfying. Even though we didn't win the playoffs, we are happy with the results and the improvements we made during the season.
Our plan is to continue playing during the season 5 as well. We plan to play more consistently as a team compared to season 4. During the Heroes Lounge season 4, we only played together 3 times except for the Heroes Lounge games.
A shoutout to the Heroes Lounge staff for organizing this awesome tournament and building such a nice community. To Penelope for doing the interview as well as subbing for us during the season. Also to Dentro_ for casting and believing in our somewhat unexpected drafts. Last but not least we would like to throw it out there #PrayForToads
