May 12, 2017 Amateur League EU Inside Lounge Interview

Hey folks! We're back with another instalment of Inside Lounge, brought to you by myself, Arquine, resident tilt lord for Freedom For Slothville. This week, we've caught up with a new an upcoming meme team Ley Lined Seals! Ley Lined Seals are a newly minted team, already making headways with their impressive logo and meme-ability. So let us dive straight into it!

1. Hey Ley Lined Seals, would you like to introduce yourselves to our audience?

Ricky: Hey, my name’s Alaric (aka Ricky656), I live in England and I’m the shotcaller, main drafter, and Chief Seal of the team! I primarily play the melee assassins and solo laners for the team, but I spend a lot of my time watching what’s going on in other lanes rather than focussing on my own :3 I think we’re also kind of an odd team in that almost all of us never really play any Hero League, and I myself only ever play at all if it’s with the guys - I only solo-q if it’s on Starcraft :D

MiniCP: Yo wassup and suh dood, since i have joined the team i have played nearly every role but for the most part i played sustain damage, until i was moved to the MLG 420 tank seal of the team, my name is Callum from england also, so our team has cups of tea all round and crooked teeth (lel insulting my own brits).

Rebirth: Hello, my name is Shaun, I’m the support player for LLS though my friends refer to me as Sighbirth as its my usual reaction to most things MiniCP does :D.

Ratan: Yo, name’s Ratan. I played lots of lots heroes back in alpha to beta days. I took a long break around like 2 years and during the time I played I was on NA servers. Yes an European on NA servers with 200 ping sounds like impossible, but it really wasn’t. Im the german pleb who carries these plebs through their games on ranged DPS. I played lot of characters in hots but I mostly play Assassins… Especially Zeratul and Alarak… Alaraks bae ok…

Fenrir: My name is Geoff I support. I hang out with diago and skiimy?

I used to play murky, then Ricky took it. I used to play dehaka, then Ricky took it. I used to play thrall, then Ricky took it. I used to play tank then Mini took it. I’m currently playing support, I’m all out of options. May god have mercy on my soul.

Pirrate: Hey, my name’s Dmitry and I’m the resident Russian of the team. Carrying those pleb’s asses as burst mage/second support/3rd melee or whatever else they want to see me on. Also draft together with Ricky alot of times.

2. How did you find yourselves and form a team, what’s the history behind Ley Lined Seals?

Ricky: Our team has kind of existed in some form or another for a long time. Back in the Alpha and Beta for Heroes I mainly only played with a friend of mine (Lister) who runs a teamspeak community. Through that place we found more people to play with until we were a full 5, and we started playing as a proper ‘team’. Due to scheduling and such things we’ve changed members quite a lot, we found Rebirth and Ratan through Mini; and Fenrir is the only remaining guy from the original community ^_^ Most of the other people that have played as part of our team at some point are currently trying to sort out a second team together!

MiniCP: I joined through posting something on reddit saying pleb was looking for a team around these times all that blah, then lister the leader of the inquisition scooped me up. I went through a few roles whilst first playing because it was normally based off who showed up so i played some healer and some sustained damage, then as we locked down our roster the same happened to our roles.

Ratan: Mini hooked me up that they were looking for another person. Since they were swapping around the roles I thought, “Why the fuck not I got some time…”.

Fenrir: Just cause…..2

Rebirth: Mini dragged me into it, rest was history xD

Pirrate: Similar story to mini’s - I posted on reddit that I’m looking for a team and Lister messaged me.

3. What’s the inspiration behind your name?

Ricky: We were having a pretty hard time coming up with a name we all liked, so Mini started throwing out as many random Heroes-related puns as he could (there were a lot). This one made us laugh the most :D

MiniCP: A space alien suddenly appeared and said to me think of all the memes you have ever seen and put them all into your pants and shake out a name. I also shouted eureka as it happened just thought i would add that.

Rebirth: CoolStoryBro

Ratan:

Fenrir: Google

4. Your logo has gone a bit back and forth, seemingly crowd favourites for “logo of the season”. What do you have to say about that?

Rebirth: Brace yourselves… Mini and Pirrate have had creative differences about this since the beginning >

MiniCP: I was thrilled to hear our logo was being loved by all, having many pings on discord about it was also awesome. The lore behind our logo is as soon as we locked in our name i had an amazing way to make a weird meme out of it so i asked ricky to join me in a custom game, from there i went medivh and ley lined his team whilst getting a screencap of it, some paint skills later our baby logo popped out.

Pirrate: I still think that the one mini made does not look like a logo - it’s more of a banner. I made a better looking logo, which actually made sense, but meme master heroes lounge community didn’t approve it :(

Fenrir: It’s under patent

Ricky: There are a lot of really great logos out there, we’re more than happy to add to that collection if we can! When Mini was making ours he was just doing his thing in Paint or whatever just giggling to himself for about 15 minutes until that thing came out, it was an… interesting process. The one Pirrate made, that we changed to briefly, does makes me laugh a lot if I add sound effects to it though :D

5. As a new team in Season 3, how are you finding Heroes Lounge so far?

Ricky: I’m really enjoying it, it’s nice to have a competition to work towards; and the whole calendar system with flexible scheduling and the ability for casters to mark which matches they will stream is really cool.

MiniCP: For me it's a whole new way to play, from being a filthy casual to suddenly needing to coordinate with 4 other people i recently met was hard, but through lots of practice and some moaning i feel we have reached a good spot and are comfortable with where we are in heroes lounge.

Rebirth: It’s rather interesting to see the differences between Team League and Tournament matches, to play against teams that overall seem a lot more rehearsed in terms of gameplay, mechanics and rotations.

Pirrate: A lot of fun

6. We’re halfway through the season, you’re sitting in the middle of the pack for division 3 (the meme division PogSloth!), how are you finding the competition so far?

 Fenrir: MEDIOCRE.

Ricky: I suspect we’re in the right division =P We’ve had a good number of close games that could’ve gone either way, and there’s definitely some stiff competition out there; particularly at the top of the group.

7. You have two very interesting matchups coming up in Team Yin Yang and COB Saltshakers. How’re you feeling about that?

 Fenrir: Tis but a scratch

Pirrate: Just a setback

Ricky: We have now played against Team Yin Yang, and the games were pretty intense - we were clearly fairly evenly matched! We managed to take the series 2-1 after losing the first game to their aggressive play. They did beat CoB Saltshakers 2-1 themselves, so we do feel quietly confident going into this round’s match. We can assume the Saltshakers are going to also be pretty even with us as well though, so I expect it’ll be a close series!

8. Does deadrebirth play anything other than Malfurion or Lucio?

Ricky: He definitely does! We actually did quite a lot of practice with him trying out some of the less common healers, and he plays a really strong Kharazim - but we haven’t found much reason to draft them in our Heroes Lounge matches so far.

Rebirth: In regards to supports while Lucio and Malfurion are typically my most commonly picked (Blame Ricky :P). I do enjoy playing Rehgar, Brightwing and Kharazim when the opportunity allows me to do so. Before joining LLS as support I loved to play Greymane and Dehaka though.

MiniCP: Yes but badly Kappa

Ratan: I agree with Mini on that one Kappa .

Rebirth: I mean, someone needs to clean up the mess you make with your aggro :P

Fenrir: Cleanse

9. Any shoutouts?

Ricky: Shoutout to the rest of The Terran Inquisition and the guys forming our second team, and that have played as part of our team in the past - particularly Draz, Vol, and Lister!

MiniCP: Don't really have many friends to shout out other than ph_keith the bae and vayajefe for helping me through pubs (every now and then) or just making me laugh in my salty times lol.

Ratan: Outside of the team I choose to be stuck with. Shoutout to all the guys on NA, mcintyre, Karen aka renniesaures, Kaeyoh and Erho… Just to name a few.

Fenrir: Shout out to our sponsors Murloc slimes. Get 20% off your next gold purchase in the magical scroll below
