Feb 14, 2020 Mekaku Amateur League EU Weekly Recap

Greetings, welcome to another read. As things begin to get tense in the top of the standings, we are going to look the opposite way and look at the round 7 match between two teams fighting at the bottom of division 2. Those two teams are #wearetheproblem and Twenty One Esport. Can Twenty One Esport secure themselves their first official win or will #wearetheproblem live up to their name and make problems for them?

I also urge you to watch the VOD from Kharis' and ShadowWriter's cast of the game here.

Previous standings

#wearetheproblem had a rough start on their season, losing the first four rounds to Smorc Extraordinaire, Don Our Fedoras, Complex and Battle Beasts Boys respectively. Round 5 was a BYE for them, before they got their first official win of the season in round 6 against The Forever Alones. Most of its member consist of players from a previous team in division 1 called epikk that existed a few seasons ago. Twenty One Esport on the other hand is unique, as in their second season in Lounge they jumped all the way from division 6 to division 2. So, far they haven't been able to adapt with 0 wins and 0 maps taken. Though they have had a BYE as well. The teams they have faced and lost to are Hippopotamus, Probius and Friends, Lumpensammler, The Forever Alones and Battle Beasts Boys.

Result

Game 1 on Tomb of the Spider Queen after only 7 minutes #wearetheproblem had taken full control of the game when they pushed with objective while only they had level 10 talents. They got all three forts, a two level lead and they made their opponent lose all their gems. They managed to keep this advantage throughout the whole game, and just snowball the game to victory after only 12 minutes.
In game 2 on Towers of Doom a large portion of the game consisted of Twenty One Esport getting kills while #wearetheproblem soaked much better. Making it so that the exp difference cancelled each other out. The game, however began to go over to #wearetheproblems favour, when they got the opponents bot fort and controlled it the whole game. Add to that one favorable teamfight later in the game, which they could dominate the rest of the game on and win. Making the score a confident 2-0 to #wearetheproblem over Twenty One Esport.

MVP

Todays MVP goes to Zervas on #wearetheproblem. First game on Raynor, he did nothing too flashy, but sometimes it’s just enough to position correctly and deal a lot of damage from a safe distance. In the second game as Lunara, things were different, however. He played much more aggressive, as he trusted that as long as he did enough damage Auriel would heal him back up again. He was also being a nuisance to the opponent, poking their health down a lot. Add to that some skillful use of Leaping Strike to get out of some awkward spots or to finish off heroes. Then there is no doubt who had the most impact on the second game and the match overall. Zervas was also top damage in both games, especially the second one is impressive with 87 k damage compared to Tychus in second place with 58 k damage.

Play of the game

This fight #wearetheproblem won from a great Sleep Dart into Mosh, before Twenty One Esport had gotten their level 10 talents. The momentum generated from this moment allowed #wearetheproblem to snowball the rest of the game.

Highlights

Here game 1 ends a bit suddenly as Twenty One Esport didn't expect their opponent to continue for the core after taking bot keep.

At this point the teamfight was already won by #wearetheproblem, but they cleaned up well after the fight as well.

Interview

Today I am having a chat with DrigathTaliZervas and Stefy from #wearetheproblem after the match.

First of all congratulations with the victory. How is it to now have gotten two wins after a rough start on the season?

Drigath: It’s pretty nice to finally winning some, just had to swap out the weak link.

Tali: We started with Zervas on the tank, but we noticed it didn’t work out as we actually wanted it to.

Zervas: At least now we have a useful damage dealer, so this is why we might be winning.

Stefy: I love you too.

You are undoubtedly happy about winning, but are you guys satisfied with your gameplay in the match as well?

Drigath: Honestly, the second game was sloppy to be honest. We pulled it through later on, but the start of the game was really bad from our side.

Tali: We actually in the draft screwed ourselves over with the tank pick. Because we said pick a tank and Drigath got Anub’arak pre picked, even though we gave him the options. Then he was like “I don’t hear anything, la la la, I just pick Anub”. But Yeah, after 10 with the Cocoon, we all said “It might work out when Dehaka burrows in, we Cocoon him or maybe Tychus, because of the Cocoon shreds”.

Drigath: We ended up Cocooning Lucio or Garrosh the most actually, just either to peel or to get a one shoot on someone. We also ended up having a lot of one shoot potential with the Jaina and Anub, just comboing on someone.

Zervas: I think that at the beginning, we just messed up the setup on the lanes. Me being in mid lane as Lunara was pretty bad since we played Auriel. Not sure what we all were thinking and then when we switched it up by sending Jaina into the mid lane, we started winning.

Tali: And at 13 I noticed that the Abolish Magic talent from Lunara is insane against Kael’Thas. Cause I can cleanse everything, I can cleanse taunt, I can cleanse Living bomb so it doesn’t deal damage. Some people actually don’t know it cleanses damage over time spells like poisons. You just sometimes forget that you picked the talent.

Tell me a bit about the members of the team?

Tali:  I mean Zervas and me won division 1 once already in 2019. So basically Maangar, Drigath, Zervas and I played together with another tank in division 1 back then in the days before the HGC announcement. But then we made a big break and we didn’t actually play regularly. Just sometimes whenever we felt having fun.

Zervas: Yeah, we basically just started playing a bit again for fun as friends. We didn’t have a tank so someone had to switch to tank and then we got Stefy in just for fun.

Stefy: Yeah, I’ve never played competitively before.

Zervas: But it’s going all right, she improved a lot, so we are actually winning games now.

Stefy: I’m learning.

Tali: I actually played in division S before for a few weeks. For Go Next until I got kind of replaced because I started to play Starcraft again. They wanted an active player which was fine, of course. I was not really kicked, it was kind of mutual and was like yeah, now they might win games. This is also kind of how the team name of us started. Because we always lost in division S and I was like #IWasTheProblem. Unfortunately, they still lost all of their remaining games. This is why we are the problem. I even played with them in division 1 the same had happened then as well. It happens almost the same way with me as with Zervas

Zervas: They were like ugh Tali is never playing can we not get another guy. Then Tali was the problem, then I started to play with them, and then after a bit of playing I was the problem tOo. So yeah, we are the problem.

Has it been hard to be motivated throughout the season with all the losses?

Drigath: I think it has actually been ok, because we also went in with the mentality of, we are playing for fun. So, it’s not like it took a toll on us losing a lot. Like obviously we were not happy about it, but yeah.

Tali: We were actually placed in division 7 first of all. Because HotsLogs was shut down and we hadn’t actually played and the seasons before weren’t considered. So, our mmr and Lounge mmr were divison 7 so we joked about retiring. Then the mod suggested putting us in division 1, but I think we would get screwed in division 1. Because of rustiness and newcomers in our team.

Zervas: I didn’t even play a single ranked game in 2019 so the rankings took a hit.

Tali: Yeah, the last ranked game for me was like in March when we still played Heroes Lounge.

Zervas: I also think it was ok because we have Stefy who never really played ranked even. Until she started playing a bit with us.

Zervas: Yeah, who went from playing some qm and super casually, and then suddenly having to play with four kind of tryhards.

Stefy: You are tryhards.

Zervas: And one of us having to switch to tank after not having played in a year. Yeah, we knew that at the beginning, it would be rough. But we saw us improving after like round 4 when it was a really close match. And then now we won the last two matches. So that’s nice, not getting super hardly wrecked. I mean the first match was against division S players as well, when suddenly MaxPassion was playing against us, smurfing us hard.

Do you expect to keep the trend

Tali: We hope so, but I don’t know if we can still qualify for the playoffs. Not sure how many teams are getting qualified is it 8? If so, this is gonna be a rough one. I don’t think so then, but we can try to improve and have fun.

What are your thoughts on Heroes Lounge, and are there any particular things you really enjoy or dislike about the tournament?

Drigath: I dislike you can’t use animated sprays.

Tali: And the Choo-choo train

Zervas: But seriously, I actually think it’s really great that you still have tournaments like that. Like back when we stopped, we thought that everything would have been gone and then we heard about division S. I was like okay maybe one season max then it’s all gone and nothing else happens anymore, no LANS and so on. I think that if Tali and me at least knew that there would be some more tournaments and another season of division S we would probably kept on playing.

Drigath: I might have as well.

Zervas: Yeah, we might have just stuck as a team in the end.

Drigath: I think just none of us really believed in it. But you guys kept it together actually which is pretty cool.

Tali: We actually didn’t think that the crowdfunding especially in the first season would boom so much.

Zervas: Heroes Lounge has a cool scene

Tali: Yeah, and the community is great.

Thank you for your time, anything you would like to add before the interview ends?

Zervas: Shoutout to DeathKnight my favorite player. I don’t know, keep on going like that it’s cool to see Heroes Lounge still. Especially because the non pro players can play the divisions like 4, 5, 6 and so on, which is also pretty cool to play. People enjoy it, and as long as people enjoy it, it’s fun.

That's all for today, many thanks to the members of #wearetheproblem for the interview.
